‘Attack on minority community disappointing’

The recent attacks on Hindus across the country were totally disappointing, said Law Commission Chairman, also the former chief justice, ABM KhairulHaque.

He said: “The attacks on Hindus are disappointing and as a senior citizen of the country, I am strongly condemning such shameful aggression by a vested quarter.”

He made the statement while speaking at a view exchange meeting at the Judicial Administration Training Institution on Wednesday afternoon.

He said: “The formation of an independent Bangladesh happened as a sign of our protest against any kind of violence on the people of the country by the Pakistani authority, no matter from which community they belongs to.”

Referring to those who “claimed” that the ongoing violence was taking place because of the 13th amendment of the constitution, he said: “We have no other option but scrapping the caretaker government system in order to uphold the democratic flow in the country.”

Mentioning that the sovereignty of the people should not be stopped even for one-day, he said: “After the assassination of American President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Johnson took oath of office inside an aircraft before flying to Washington. That happened only to ensure the democratic flow of the country.”
