Four people died and one other was critically injured after a pick-up van collided head-on with a CNG auto-rickshaw in Sylhet on Wednesday morning.
One other was admitted to Osmai Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Police blamed the dense morning fog and a broken lane for the accident.
Three died on the spot after the collision took place in the Kura Bazar area of the Dhaka-Sylhet highway around 6:30am, Osmani Nagar police Officer-in-Charge Jubair Ahmed Chowdhury said.
Another died after being taken to the hospital, he said. The bodies were being kept at Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
The deceased were identified as Hasmat Ali from Kanaighat, 33, Islam Uddin from Noagram, 32, and Kabir Uddin, 35. The identity of the CNG driver was not found.
Sylhet police Superintendent Nur-e-Alam Mina confirmed the information.
“A lane on the highway is broken. That is why vehicles were using only one way. To add, there was dense fog. These factors caused the accident,” the OC said.
