2 killed in petrol bomb attacks in Feni, Sirajganj

At least two persons were burnt to death yesterday when blockade campaigners hurled petrol bombs at a covered van and a goods-laden truck.

A driver was run over and killed by his covered van while trying to escape a petrol bomb attack on Monday night.

The deceased was identified as Shah Alam, 28. His assistant, Al-Amin, 25, also received serious injuries.

The accident took place on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in the Lemua Bridge area of Feni. Al-Amin said the miscreants hurled bombs at the van while they were going to  Dhaka from Chittagong.

As the fire from petrol bombs caught the van, Shah Alam jumped off it to flee the scene but unfortunately went under the wheel of the van and died on the spot.

Jahangir Alam, OC of Mohipal highway police station, said: “We are not sure if the explosion was caused by petrol bomb or a gas cylinder.”

The body of the driver was sent to Feni Sadar Hospital for an autopsy while the injured was admitted to the same hospital, he added.

Al-Amin was transferred to Dhaka Medical Collage Hospital at a later stage.

Three others were injured in the petrol bomb attack, confirmed Emran Hossain, the SP of Sirajganj.
