AL-JP clash in Habiganj

At least 50 people were injured in clashes between Awami League and Jatiya Party supporters in Baniachang upazila, Habiganj on Monday morning.

The incident took place a day after the 10th parliamentary elections in the country and during an anti-polls hartal of the BNP-led 18-party alliance.

The clash ensued from an altercation between Awami League activist Aliur Rahman and Jatiya Party agent Liton Mia over Sunday's elections, witnesses said.

The clashes ensued for about an hour. 20 people were taken to Habiganj Sadar Hospital. A tense situation was prevailing through the area afterwards.

Habiganj police Superintendent Nazmul Islam endorsed the incident and said the clash took place because of previous enmity. Deployment has been increased in the area.
