AL bags 7 seats in Chittagong

The Awami League has bagged seven constituencies in the 10th parliamentary elections held on Sunday. The port city is divided into 16 parliamentary constituencies.

Of the constituencies, the Awami League-backed candidates have been elected unofficially in seven seats.

In Chittagong 2 constituency, Syed Nojubul Boshor Maijvandari bagged 125351 votes while his nearest contestant independent candidate Dr Mahmud Hasan got 12433 votes.

In Chittagong 4 constituency, Didarul Alam got 153815 votes while his nearest contestant Jatiya Party (JP)-backed candidate AAM Haydar Ali Chowdhury got 6848 votes.

In Chittagong 11 constituency, M Abdul Latif got 64032 votes while his nearest contestant Jatiya Party-backed Kamal Uddin Chowdhury secured 1990 votes.

In Chittagong 12 constituency, Samshul Haque Chowdhury bagged 128214 votes while his nearest contender Jatiya Party-backed Sirajul Islam Chowdhury got 10197 votes.

In Chittagong 13 constituency, Saifuzzaman Chowdhury secured 178985 votes while his nearest contestant Jatiya Party-backed Tapan Chakrabarti got 5418 votes.

In Chittagong 15 constituency, Abu reza Mohammad Nejamuddin got 101866 votes while his nearest contender BNF-backed Alhajj Joynal Abedin Quaderi got 4448 votes.

In Chittagong 16 constituency, Mostafijur Rahman Chowdhury bagged 147855 votes while his nearest contestant Jatiya Party (JP)-backed AAM Haydar Ali Chowdhury got 6848 votes.

The city also witnessed a good voter turnout than other divisions of the country.

District Returning officer and deputy commissioner Abdul Mannan said 50% (average) vote has been casted in Chittagong.

A total of 45% turnout was counted in Chittagong 2 constituency while 70% in Chittagong 3, 52% in Chittagong 12, 60% in Chittagong 13, 33% in Chittagong 15 and 33% in Chittagong 16 constituency.
