Ershad loses Lalmonirhat, wins Rangpur

Despite his unwillingness to participate in the polls, Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad has won the Rangpur-3 constituency.

He won the election over Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) candidate in Rangpur-3 constituency. Ershad bagged 55,453 votes while Md Sabbir Ahmed secured 25,586 votes, reports Rangpur Returning Officer’s office.

However, he lost the Lalmonirhat-1 poll to the ruling party candidate Motahar Hossain. In Lalmonirhat, Awami League aspirant Motahar Hossain bagged 179,276 votes while Ershad got 7,827.

His victory in these polls brings the 10th win for his party.

Earlier, Ershad had declared that he would not join the polls without the participation of main opposition BNP.

He had even applied for his nomination withdrawal. However, the returning officer returned his application citing error in date.
