CEC: Polls in suspended centres by Jan 24

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad said elections would be held in the postponed centres by January 24.

The CEC made the statement during a press conference at the Election Commission office on Sunday afternoon.

“The number of the postponed polling centres will be finalized after voting ends,” he said.

Earlier in the afternoon, the CEC visited the centre at Azimpur Girl’s High School.

Voting at 138 polling centres throughout 13 districts have been postponed following attacks, allegedly by anti-polls activists, on the eve of the 10th national elections.

When asked about the issue of fake voters, he said: “The polling officers submitted ballot papers after checking voters'identity cards.”

"The current situation is dynamic. Everything will be clarified after the voting ends,” he added.
