Ballots snatched, stamped for Boat in Chittagong

Miscreants snatched away ballots and cast votes for Boat in a polling centre of Fatikchhari upazila, Chittagong on Sunday during 10th parliamentary elections.

Some 30 people entered, snatched away the votes and cast them in favour of Awami League around 11:30am, presiding officer Mohammad Mesbauddin said.

The presiding officer stopped votes for two hours refusing to resume elections without proper security. Voting resumed two hours afterwards, the officer said.

Fatikchhari upazila police Assistant Superintendent Naimul Hassan visited the spot and said no formal charges were pressed regarding the issue.

Syed Nojibul Boshor Maijvandari, contesting from Awami League-led 14-party, is contesting in the elections with Boat symbol, the traditional polls-sign for AL.

He stands against two independent candidates for the Chittagong-2, Fatikchhari upazila constituency.
