Pro-BNP lawyers refused the consensus regarding gathering at Supreme Court premises under pressure of BNP or Jamaat-e-Islami, the attorney general said.
“A consensus was reached in the meeting,” Mahbubey Alam said on Wednesday afternoon after the press conference of pro-BNP lawyers.
In view of the unprecedented violence at Supreme Court premises, a consensus on keeping the court clear from gatherings was said to have been reached.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told reporters about the consensus meeting on Tuesday, what pro-BNP lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali said was misleading.
Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association President Ali told reporters at a press conference that no such consensus was reached.
He also slammed his pro-Awami League colleagues and the attorney general for disclosing “the content of the meeting that was agreed confidential.”
However, the attorney general did not speak on the confidentiality issue, instead it was the Supreme Court Registrar AKM Shamsul Islam who spoke.
“If the meeting was confidential and no message was supposed to go outside, what was the point of the meeting?” he told reporters.
He said that the concerned meeting did take place at the Judges' Lounge on Tuesday and a consensus took place between pro-Awami League and BNP lawyers.
