An Awami League leader was killed as his shop caught fire after miscreants hurled petrol bombs on it at Shibganj Bazar of the district on Monday night.
Enamul Haque, AL advisory council member of Shibganj upazila unit, was inside his shop when the miscreants threw petrol bombs.
Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Shibganj police station, said some unidentified miscreants hurled petrol bombs at Enamul’s shop around 7pm on Monday that burnt him alive.
On information, fire fighters rushed in and doused the fire. However, it was too late for them to rescue Enamul.
Later, police recovered the body at around 9pm.
Earlier on Monday morning, Rab members arrested Shibganj upazila Juba Dal leader Salahuddin Mia.
Locals claimed that BNP-Jamaat activists might have hurled the petrol bombs following the arrest of Salahuddin Mia.
