Inspector General of Police Hassan Mahmud Khandker said police was not obstructing transport movement centering the BNP’s Dhaka March programme and will not do so.
He made the statement while talking to journalists at police headquarters on Saturday afternoon.
"Police members are not creating any obstruction for transport movement and would not do it. Rather the law enforcers are doing everything for ensuring public security" said the IGP.
He claimed that police is not against political programmes.
The IGP said all the police forces remained alert to deal with any kind of situation keeping information of subversive acts in consideration.
“The forces have been directed to apply the power whatever the laws permit,” he said.
Replying to a query, IGP Hassan Mahmud denied the allegation of mass arrest and breaching of laws and power.
He claimed that action must be taken if such specific allegation is found.
"There is no scope of compromising with the criminals carrying out subversive acts", he added.
