Jessore police in an overnight drive till Saturday morning detained a total of 62 people from different places in the district.
‘The arrest includes 5 BNP, 8 Jamaat-e-Islami and 8 Islami Chhatra Shibir men’, Reshma Sharmin, assistant superintendent of police, told Dhaka Tribune.
Golam Rasul, amir, Jessore town unit, Jamaat-e-Islami was also arrested in specific charges, the ASP further said.
A total of 219 people including 32 BNP, 17 Jamaat-e-Islami and 8 Islami Chhatra Shibir men were arrested in the last four days, Jessore police said.
Syed Saberul Haque Sabu, general secretary, Jessore district unit BNP termed the arrest as undemocratic saying that the government wants to create panic among 18-party men following the Dhaka March program announced by opposition leader and also BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
