Bangladesh Rukhe Darao concerned over violence

Bangladesh Rukhe Darao, a platform of progressive and pro-liberation forces, expressed its concern over the recent political violence yesterday.

In a statement, leaders of the platform said the recent spell of blockade witnessed hindrance of daily activities of people, economic crisis, uncertainty of around 50 lakh JSC and JDC examinees.

Day labourers were not getting jobs while the working people had to attend working places taking the risk of their lives, they said, adding that at least 20 people lost their lives in recent blockade and many more were either burnt or became physically challenged.

The statement also said people were hostages in this current situation. The government had intensified the problem by arresting leaders of the main opposition without minimising the problem, the statement alleged.

Mentioning the recent attacks on religious minorities in Sathia, Sirajgang, Lalmonirhat, Lakshimpur and Barisal, they also blamed Jamaat-Shibir men for the attacks, saying that the religious minorities were facing attacks both at their homes and prayer houses.

The pro-liberation forces urged the government to punish the criminals of Jamat-Shibir without considering their political backing and requested the government to ban Jamaat-e-Islam under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2009.

The existing problem could only be solved through dialogue and compromise of government and opposition party, they said, and added that they believed all political parties, who believe in the ideals of liberation war, expect welfare of the country’s people.
