A total of 25 alleged listed criminals were arrested during the special combing operation launched by the joint forces in cooperation with the forces from the police, Rab and the BGB at the capital’s Jatrabari and Kadamtali areas on Thursday.
Deputy Commissioner of the DMP (Media Centre), Masudur Rahman, said the arrested individuals were handed over to the concerned police stations.
Sub-Inspector Rezaul Islam of Jatrabari police station said a total of 17 people were shown arrested after verification while police of Kadamtali said eight were arrested from the area.
However, sources said around 42 people were detained from those areas and the rest were released after verification.
The joint forces, members of police, Rab and the BGB launched a special combing operation in and around the capital on Thursday morning, alongside patrols by the armed forces deployed across the country.
The joint commissioner declined to disclose the exact number of forces deployed for the purposes of the special combing operation.
According to sources, the combing operation has been launched after preparing a list of suspected criminals involved in subversive activities, including crude bomb blasts and arson attacks on vehicles in the city.
The operation was organised as part of the preventive measures aiming to avert any unpleasant incident which may disrupt the upcoming general election, said the sources.
Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, DMP spokesperson Monirul Islam said those accused in different cases, extortionists, illegal arms holders, and drugs peddlers were among the targeted people for the combined forces in their operations.
The drive will continue for some more days, he added.
