Road accidents kill four

Four people were killed in three separate road accidents in Netrokona, Natore and Laxmipur in the last two days.  

An old man named Abdul Mojid, 70, was killed in a road accident on Mohangonj-Gaglajur road at Gaglajur bazaar, Mahangonj upazila, Netrakona yesterday, reports our correspondent. 

Police and local sources said the accident occurred as a motorcyclist lost his control and hit Mojid around 11am, leaving him dead on the spot. A case was filed with Mohangonj police station. Police confined the motorcycle.

In Natore, a pick-up van driver was killed in a collision between the van and a truck at Agran area of Banpara-Hattikumrul Highway of Baraigram upazila early yesterday, reports our correspondent.

The deceased was Shafiqul Islam,38, of village Basundia, Jessore. Masud Parvez, officer-in-charge of Banpara Highway police camp, said the pick-up van was carrying a truck’s engine. The pick up entered under a truck while it tried to overtake. The driver died on the spot.

In Laxmipur, two people were killed and four others injured in a road accident in Chowdhury Bridge area on the Raipur-Chandpur Highway in Raipur upazila on Tuesday.

The deceased were Mohsin, a resident of Purbalach village in Raipur upazila, and Palash Hossain, a resident of Matlab  Upazila, Chandpur.

Police said a CNG-run auto- rickshaw collided head-on with a pickup van in the area around 9pm, leaving two people dead on the spot and four others injured.

The injured were rushed to Pabna Medical College Hospital.
