BNP lawmaker Shammi Akter was detained from party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan political office on Wednesday night.
A spot account told the Dhaka Tribune that police held the opposition BNP MP Shammi immediate after the detention of BNP standing committee member Dr AR Gani at 8:17pm from the same spot.
Later, police took Shammi to Cantonment police station, a high official of Detective Branch (DB) of police told the Dhaka Tribune seeking annonymity.
DB police also detained a former BNP lawmaker Sardar Shakhawat Hossain Bakul in the capital’s Gulshan area on Wednesday evening.
Witnesses said Bakul, a former BNP MP from Narshingdi, was picked up by plainclothes police around 6:30pm from near the residence of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.
He was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as he was feeling illness after detention, added the DB official.
