Ganajagaran organiser Bappaditya attacked

A crude bomb was hurled targeting Ganajagaran Mancha organiser and also the president of Bangladesh Chhatra Moitree Bappaditya Basu in the capital’s Shahbagh area on Saturday evening.

Injured Bappaditya Basu and rickshaw-puller Asad Miah, 70, have been rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said friends and co-activists of the Ganajagaran Mancha.

Sirajul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Shahbagh police station, said: “Two bombs were hurled at Bappa when he just had crossed Aziz Cooperative Super Market on his way to Shahbagh from Elephant Road through Kantabon by a rickshaw at around 7:45pm.”

“As the bombs exploded, Bapa sustained injuries at his left leg and the 70-year-old rickshaw-puller Asad Miah also received injuries from the splinters,” the OC said.

The OC added that both Bappa and the rickshaw-puller survived from major injuries.

“I have visited them at the DMCH”, the OC said adding: “We are trying to find out the attackers and arrest them.”
