Saboteurs strike on Kishoreganj rail link

Train communication in Kishoreganj was restored five hours after miscreants removed fishplates in Sarar Char area of the district on Saturday.

The incident took place during a fresh spell of nationwide blockade of the BNP-led 18-party alliance.

Kishoreganj Railway Station Master Jayanta Majumder said miscreants removed fishplates in Sarar Char area around 5:30am. “The sabotage was spotted at 8:30am.”

Kishoreganj-Dhaka and Bhoirab-Mymensingh railway routes were suspended during this time. Inter-city Egarosindur Express was delayed at Kishoreganj station.

“Train communications resumed around 10:30am,” station Master Jayanta Majumder said. “Kishoreganj-Dhaka and Bhoirab-Mymensingh routes are back.”

Fishplates are used to join two rail sections to make a continuous railway track.

Railway communication have been a key target for sabotage. In the recent past, one such misdeed led to derailment of a train and loss of five lives.
