Syeda Zohra Tajuddin, Awami League Advisory Council member and wife of the first Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Tajuddin Ahmad, died in the city’s United Hospital on Friday morning. She was 80.
Her daughter Simin Hossain Rimi MP told the Dhaka Tribune that she passed away at 10:20am.
President Abdul Haimd and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued individual statements expressing their sorrow at the death of the most senior leader of the ruling Awami League.
Her namaz-e-janaza will be held after Juma prayers at Gulshan Azad mosque.
Zohra Tajuddin, mother of former State Minister for Home Affairs Tanjim Ahmad Sohel Taj, was suffering from a hip-fracture and underwent surgery at the leading corporate hospital Medicity Medanta in Gurgaon, a satellite city of Delhi.
She was admitted at United Hospital some 18 days ago and was kept on life support .
On December 9, she was taken off of the life support as her condition had gotten better, said her daughter Simeen Hussain Rimi.
Later, she was kept in another room under 24-hour observation and monitoring by doctors, Rimi added.
Syeda Zohra and Tajuddin were married on April 26, 1959. Tajuddin found an ideal life partner in Zohra. Their marriage inspired Tajuddin to continue his struggle for freedom and democracy.
She is survived by three daughters Sharmin Ahmad Reepi, Simeen Hussain Rimi, Mahjabin Ahmad Mimi and only son Tanjim Ahmad Sohel Taj.
