A group of youths brought out a torch procession in the capital onMonday, during Victory Day celebrations condemning the on-going violence in the country.
Wielding a banner named Gana Adhikar Sangram Committee, the processionmarched through Nilkhet, Katabon and ended with a short rally at Shahbagh, Dhaka.
In the rally, Mizanur Rahman, an organiser, said people must unite against the “violence for power” between the two main political alliances of the country.
He condemned the intervention of diplomats into Bangladesh’s internal politics dubbing it “against the spirit of independence.”
Another organiser, Masud Khan, called upon the people to form micro-level groups in order to form resistance this violence and that of the Jamaat-e-Islami.
Over a 100 people have died during October, November and the running December in violence ensuing from the disparity between political parties over how the January 5 elections will take place.
The Jamaat-e-Islami also waged violence throughout the nation after the execution of their leader and convicted war criminal Abdul Quader Molla.
