A group of youths brought out a torch procession in the capital on Monday, during Victory Day celebrations, condemning the ongoing countrywide violence.
The procession, under the banner of Gana Adhikar Sangram Committee, started from Chhabir Haat of Shahbagh in the afternoon and it backed to the same place parading Nilkhet, Katabon.
In the rally, Mizanur Rahman, one of the organisers, said people must unite against the “violence for power” between the two main political alliances of the country.
He condemned the intervention of diplomats into Bangladesh’s internal politics dubbing it “against the spirit of independence.”
Another organiser, Masud Khan, called upon the people to form micro-level groups in order to form resistance against this violence and that of the Jamaat-e-Islami.
Over 100 people have died during October, November and the running December in violence ensuing from the disparity between political parties over how the January 5 elections will take place.
The Jamaat-e-Islami also waged violence throughout the nation after the execution of their leader and convicted war criminal Abdul Quader Molla.
