Arson attack victim dies

An auto-rickshaw driver, who fell prey to an arson attack in Chittagong recently, died of his burn injuries at a Dhaka hospital early on Monday.

Abdul Aziz, 50, succumbed at the intensive care unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital's (DMCH) burn unit at 4:30am, Residential Surgeon Partha Shankar Pal said.

Aziz had suffered 35% burn injuries, he said.

Opposition supporters hurled a petrol bomb on his auto-rickshaw during an agitation programme of the BNP-led 18-party alliance on December 1.

He was transferred to DMCH in critical condition on December 3.

Over 100 people have died from intances of violence ensuing from the disparity between the two main political parties over how the January 5 national elections will be held.
