Five people were killed and 50 other injured in a clash between Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir activists with police in Companiganj upazila in Noakhali district on Saturday.
Two of the deceased were identified as Saiful,23, and Russel,40.
Witnesses said Jamaat-Shibir activists set fire on upazila land and family planning offices during a rally brought out in protest of the execution of convicted war criminal Abdul Quader Molla around 3:30pm.
They hurled several crude bombs and brickbats targeting the police that triggered a clash.
Companiganj police station Officer-in-charge Sajidur Rahman Sajed said three bodies have been recovered from the spot. The bodies were in the police station.
The injured were rushed to Companiganj upazila health complex.
Meanwhile, two persons died on the way to the hospital, said Dr Alauddin, emergency medical officer of upazila health complex.
