Law enforcers on high alert

The law enforcement agencies have been asked to remain on highest alert ahead of the execution of Jamaat-e-Islami leader, “the butcher of Mirpur,” Abdul Quader Molla.

Law enforcers have been alert throughout for the on-going blockade, Dhaka Metropolitan Police spokesperson Masudur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune Thursday.

But in the current heat of events, law enforcers have been asked to remain on high alert, he said.

Paramilitary Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), which were already deployed in the country, will remain until the blocakde, BGB Public Relations Officer Muhasin Reza said.

“Apart from the blocakde, they will perform duties for maintaining internal security of the country during the deployment period,” he added.

The entire of elite force Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have been asked to remain on highest alert, Rab spokesperson ATM Habibur Rahman said.

“We are ready to deal any kind of situation,” he said. “As part of intensified security measures, additional forces have been deployed for security check posts.”

In response to a query, the Rab director said he had no specific intelligence of subversive activities in the country.

Sources said security has been heightened around Dhaka Central Jail and other key points throughout the capital.
