3 police injured in Chittagong

Some three police officilas were injured between Chhatra Shibir and Awami League activists in Andarkilla area in Chittagong on Thursday afternoon.

Two of the injured were indetified as Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Assistant Commissioner Mirza Saiem Mahmud, his body guard Constable Jashim.

Witness said the ruling party members brought out a rejoice procession after the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court rejected convicted war criminal Quader Mollah's plea of filing review petition.

Later, the Shibir activists hurled some 12 crude bombs and torched an ambulance when the procession reached Andarkilla area at around 1:30pm.

Meanwhile, the Ganajagaran activists joined with the Awami League activists during the clash.

Sources said three police officials were injured when the Shibir activists hurled crude bombs targeting the cops.

Confirming the incident,  CMP Hospital Suparintendent Dr Shahabuddin said the injured police officials have been sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.

Azam Nasiruddin, general secretary of City Committee of Awami league claimed that four of their supporters were injured in this accident. However, local police could not confirm it.

Additional police has been deployed to the spot.
