Sylhet clash injures 20

At least 20 people, including police, were injured in a clash with Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir members in Osmani Medical College Hospital area during a daylong hartal in Sylhet on Thursday morning.

Witnesses said Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists threw bricks and bats on a human hauler during a procession on the road in front of the medical college around 7:15am.

They locked into a clash when police charged batons and fired 23 rounds of rubber bullet to disperse the crowd that left 20 injured, including Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Abul Kalam.

Sylhet Metropolitan police Spokesperson and also Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Aiyub confirm the incident to Dhaka Tribune.

He said: “Injured ASI Kamal has been admitted to the hospital.”

On the other hand, Shibir activist Rahim has been detained with Riffle and bullers from south Shurma area.
