Speakers at a programme in Chittagong city yesterday said hunger and poverty could be eased across the world through ensuring proper management and preventing wastage of food.
Caritas Bangladesh organised a discussion titled “Food Security and Eradication of Hunger” with the slogan “One Human Family, Food for All” with an aim to create awareness in the society over food security.
James Gomes, regional director of Caritas, delivered welcome speech at the meeting when Father Leonard Rebeiro and other participants took part in discussion.
Rebeiro said the problem of hunger and poverty could be eradicated across the world through ensuring justice to the under privileged people. James said 40% food were being wasted during harvesting across the world adding that reducing wastage and proper management could end hunger.
Speakers at the programme said Bangladesh a least developed country where millions of people do not get enough food to eat, so it was necessary to prevent wastage of food.
People should keep the nutritive value and the comparative cost of food items in mind while buying them, they said. A documentary film relating to food security was screened at the programme.
