A mother and her eight-year-old daughter was roasted alive when Jamaat-e-Islami supporters set fire to a covered van in Gazipur late Tuesday night.
At least two more people were injured at scene which took place after the execution of Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Molla was announced.
The deceased were identified as Sumi Akter, 28, and her daughter Sanjida. Two of the injured were Adam Ali, 35, and his daughter Sadia, 4.
Gazipur police Superintendent Abdul Baten blamed the incident on supporters of Jamaat and their student affiliate Islami Chhatra Shibir.
“They set the covered van on fire at Bhogra bypass area around 10:30pm. Though others could escape the fire, the mother and her daughter could not.”
Injured Adam Ali said their bus fell prey to a blockade on the road. “Then suddenly the bus was on fire.”
The injured attended treatments at Gazipur Sadar Hospital. The dead bodies were being kept at police custody.
