Rajshahi city saw a spate of violence Tuesday night after the execution of war criminal and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Molla was announced.
Two petrol bombs were hurled at the house of former junior minister for industries Omar Faruque Chowdhury around 9:30pm, police said.
Police rushed to the spot and fired rubber bullets to disperse the crowd, Boalia police Officer-in-Charge Ziaur Rahman Zia said.
Local Fire Service and Civil Defense control room said several shops were set on fire in Binodpur Bazar area around 11pm. Witnesses said Shibir men carried out the attack.
Witnesses said Islami Chhatra Shibir brought out a procession and vandalised several shops in Sagarpara area around 9:30pm.
Local sources said Shibir supporters brought out a procession and engaged in a stand-off with law enforcers in Dingadoba area around 9:30pm.
The incidents took place after the announcement of execution of Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Quader Molla. However, the execution was later stayed.
