Mancha demands ICT witness protection law

Ganajagaran Mancha demanded a law for protection of witnesses testifying against war criminals in the International Crimes Tribunal.

Spokesperson Imran H Sarker placed the demand on Monday evening after a torch procession protesting deaths of a Mancha activist in Bogra and an ICT witness.

The procession began from Shahbagh, what the Mancha people said was Projonmo Chattar, and encircled TSC and Ruposhi Bangla Hotel at 6pm.

Among those present were Bangladesh Chhatra Union President Bappaditya Basu, JSD Chhatral League President Shamsul Alam Sumon and blogger Badhon.

“About 20 Mancha activists have been killed since February 5,” Imran H Sarker said. “But none of those murders saw proper justice.”

The Mancha spokesperson critiqued the government and demanded justice for those murders.

“The ICT witnesses do not have sufficient security. We demand for a law in this regard, for the protection of the witnesses who will testify against war criminals,” he said.

Earlier, the government made changes to the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act, 1973, providing equal scope for defense and prosecution to appeal in view of protests from Ganajagaran Mancha.
