United Nations’ Assistant Secretary General Oscar Fernandez-Taranco’s Dhaka visit has been extended to include one more day.
The meeting between UN envoy and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Ashraful Alom Khokon, deputy press secretary of PMO, said.
The press conference Taranco was scheduled to hold on Tuesday afternoon has also been cancelled, reports our correspondent Sheikh Shahriar Zaman.
He is likely to leave Dhaka on Wednesday night.
The envoy is in Bangladesh on deputation of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for what is being said "to broker a political deal" ahead of the elections.
The country has hit a political deadlock over how the upcoming elections would be held.
The BNP has been waging movements demanding elections under a caretaker government.
Meanwhile, an interim cabinet was formed in November as per ruling Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s proposal for an ‘all-party’ cabinet to oversee the upcoming polls.
