The cabinet on Monday initiated a motion of condolence expressing grief over the death of iconic South African leader and former president Nelson Mandela.
The motion was raised at the regular cabinet meeting while the country is observing a three-day state mourning with the national flag half-hoisted.
Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan told reporters that the cabinet approved the condolence motion unanimously.
The proposal which was placed before the cabinet cited the role of Nelson Mandela in resolving the caste discrimination between white and black and establishing a peaceful democracy.
It also cited the relation between Bangladesh, Bangabandhu and Sheikh Hasina and Mandela.
The cabinet also expressed its shock and sympathy for the South African people and Mandela’s family members.
