PM: Lift blockade for Mandela

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called upon the opposition to withdraw their nationwide blockade to show respect to Nelson Mandela.

“He (Mandela) is one of the greatest leaders of this decade,” the premier said in a message on Saturday. “The world is grieving his passing away.”

Bangladesh has expressed solidarity and has called for three days of mourn, the premier said, her information advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury told the Dhaka Tribune.

The premier urged the opposition to lift the blockade and allow the nation to show respect to Nelson Mandela. She also asked the opposition to join the nation in mourning.

Ninety-five year old Mandela passed away in Johannesburg undergoing intensive medical care for some time.

Bangladesh has announced three days of national mourning, effective from Saturday, for the death of this leader.
