Chittagong trains suspended

All scheduled Dhaka-Chittagong railway routes have been suspended for Wednesday.

Confirming the news, Chittagong Station Master AA Shamsul Alom said: “The schedule was suspended for the day as some inter-city trains which were scheduled to reach the station by the morning, have yet to arrive.

Meanwhile, blockaders have removed fishplates in Chandpur district that interrupted the regular schedule on the route,” he added.

The station master said the railway authorities have asked all passenger trains to ply slowly in order to avoid any kind of accident during the blockade.

Earlier, regular train services on the route were compelled for suspension several times due to blockaders’ attacking.

The railways are continuing to be the main target of blockaders during the ongoing countrywide blockade programmes called by the BNP-led 18-party alliance.

At least four people were killed and hundreds others injured by Wednesday afternoon as miscreants pried out fishplates and set the tracks on fire.

The ongoing attacks have severed railway communications on several different routes for hours.
