Existing law & order status better, Amu claims

The existing law and order situation of the country is better from what it was before, Relief and Disaster Management Minister Amir Hossain Amu claimed Wednesday.

The comment came after arson attacks during agitation the opposition's agitation programmes which have claimed several lives.

“The situation is better than the chaos it was before,” the minister told reporters after a cabinet committee meeting of the law ministry at the secretariat.

The minister said necessary actions will be taken to restore the situation to normal.

He also slammed the media for publishing “baseless” news.

This was the first polls-time government's cabinet committee meeting concering the country's law and order.

Tofail Ahmed, who was also present at the meeting, came forth saying the elections will take place “in due time. " During which "All necessary security will be employed.”

Among those present were: junior Home Minister Shamsul Hoque Tuku, senior Home Secretary CQK Mostaq Ahmed, Industry Minister Tofail Ahmed, Relief Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Post and Telecommunications Minister Rashed Khan Menon, and Rail Minister Mojibul Haque.

The Director General of paramilitary Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and elite force Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) along with police IGP were also present.
