‘Jamaat’ kills freedom fighter in Satkhira

A freedom fighter was stabbed to death allegedly by Jamaat-e-Islami supporters in Kaliganj upazila, Satkhira in the early hours of Wednesday.

The incident took place during a nationwide blockade of the BNP-led opposition 18-party alliance.

Alauddin Khokon, 70, was stabbed by Jamaat-Shibir activists, local unit Muktijoddha Commander Sheikh Wahiduzzaman claimed.

Police said unknown miscreants attacked the veteran freedom fighter in his residence Tuesday midnight.

“They threw the body to a nearby pond,” Kaliganj police Officer-in-Charge Azam Khan said. Later, his family found him and rushed him to a hospital.

Khokon succumbed to his injuries in Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex around 7am, he added.

No arrests could be made to this regard until last reported on Wednesday noon.
