Indian Foreign Secy meets BD Foreign Minister

Indian Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh has arrived in city on a 24-hour trip today – a visit seen by many as very “significant.” She arrived in Dhaka on a special flight at 10:30am. She went to the foreign ministry to meet Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and had a discussion of about half an hour. Her visit, deemed significant by many, comes a month ahead of the 10th general elections and amid an anti-polls agitation of the opposition. She is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, opposition chief Khaleda Zia and Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad during her stay. This is her first visit to Bangladesh in secretary capacity at the invitation of Foreign Minister Shahidul Haque.
