Indian foreign secretary due in Dhaka

Indian Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh is set to arrive here on Wednesday on a two-day visit.

The Indian High Commission in Dhaka issued a statement in this regard on Tuesday.

According to the statement, she would call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and main opposition BNP chief Khaleda Zia and her Bangladeshi counterpart Shahidul Haque.

It stated: “Sujatha Singh will also meet the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Mr. Abdul Hasan Mahmood Ali.”

Additionally, the Indian foreign secretary will meet Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad.

This will be Singh's first visit to Bangladesh after taking office on August 1, 2013.

A career diplomat, Sujatha joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1976 and prior to taking over as Foreign Secretary, she served as Ambassador of India to Germany and High Commissioner to Australia.
