An 11-member District Employment Implementation Committee for physically challenged people was formed at a meeting.
Rangdhanu Zilla Protibandhi Adhikar Sangstha with the assistance of ADD International and financial support from the Manusher Janno Foundation, organised the meeting for the civil society members, professionals and the elite of the city.
President of the district legal aid committee for people with disability, and noted writer and social worker of the city, Advocate MA Basher Tipu presided over the meeting.
The meeting discussed issues, including creating awareness of the legal and constitutional rights of the physically challenged population and good governance, reports BSS.
The committee will work to explore employment opportunities of persons with disabilities for their jobs in the government and other organisations.
The newly-formed committee will also work to create awareness of the fixed government quota for jobs for physically challenged people among the concerned government and non-governmental departments and private bodies.
Noted lawyer and writer Advocate MA Basher Tipu and Capacity Development Facilitator of Rangpur district office of ADD International Marufa Begum, have been elected as the President and General Secretary of the committee respectively.
The executive committee are: Monwar Hossain, senior vice president, Advocate Khairul Alam Kalam, vice president and senior reporter of Bangladesh and Sangbad Sangstha Mamun Islam, joint secretary.
