A snap shot of the Rana Plaza tragedy captured by Bangladeshi photographer Taslima Akhter has made the top 10 photographs of 2013 announced by Time magazine.
Her picture shook the whole world. It shows a couple at the back of the devastated building, embracing each other in the rubble with love and care even at the ultimate breath. The lower parts of their bodies were stuck under the concrete, signifying eternal bonding. A drop of blood from the man’s eye ran like a tear that, depicting the everlasting trauma and tragedy of the unfortunate workers.
The Dhaka Tribune contacted Taslima and published her picture of the April 24 tragedy earlier in the year, acknowledging the image.
Taslima said the cheapest labour are often out of our concern, and the fight for their rights will continue. Many people send letters of solidarity which inspired her, she said, adding that her photography is her protest.
