EC staff found dead in city

Police recovered the body of an Election Commission office assistant from the capital's area of Segunbagicha, early on Monday.

Police said Mizanur Rahman, 35, an MLSS of EC's Sutrapur office, had been missing since Sunday evening when he was on the way to his residence at East Dholaipar.

Police could not ascertain any cause behind the killing.

Officer-in-charge of Ramna police station Mashiur Rahman said the body was recovered at around 12am from a roadside at NSI lane of Segunbagicha.

“A scar was found on his neck. He was probably strangulated to death,” he said.

Meanwhile, the victim’s wife Naznin Rahman Dipu had lodged a general diary with Paltan police station on Monday morning into knowing her husband’s whereabouts.

She identified him on Monday afternoon after police sent the body to the Dhaka Medical College morgue.

Dipu told reporters that her husband had went out from the EC offices at Agargaon on Sunday afternoon and boarded a Gulisthan-bound bus.

“Around 7pm, he phoned me saying he was at Gulisthan and would reach home within 20 minutes,” Dipu said.

“As he did not reach home, I phoned him and found it switched off whole night,” she said, adding Mizanur had no enimies.

A case has been filed in this connection with Ramna police station.
