Mir Nasir sent to jail

A Chittagong court on Friday afternoon sent Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin, advisor to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, to jail in one of the two cases, which was filed with Chwakbazar police in connection to violence.

Metropolitan magistrate Syed Mashfiqul Islam handed down the order.

He was named in two of Kotwali and Chwakbazar police cases regarding the violence in the port city on Wednesday during the opposition's blockade, according to Chittagong Metropolitan Police south zone Deputy Commissioner Abdullahel Baki.

Earlier the same court granted him an ad interim bail in another case filed with Kotwali police on the same charge until the next hearing date scheduled to be held on December 3, 2013.

He was first produced before the court at 3:45pm when the defence counsel, including Advocate Naziummudin and Advocate Abdus Sattar, pleaded for bail citing the case as being aimed to harass Nasir politically.

The court granted the bail allowing Chittagong District Bar President Chandan Das as a guarantor.

However he was shown arrest in the case with Chawkbazar and produced before the same court again, and the court ordered to sent him to jail.

Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin was arrested from Chittagong's Shah Amanat International Airport Thursday night.
