Indictment hearing in Adilur, Elan case deferred

A Dhaka tribunal yesterday deferred the hearing on charge framing until December 18 against Odhikar Secretary Adilur Rahman Khan and its Director AKM Nasiruddin Elan in connection with a cyber crime case.

Judge AKM Shamsul Alam of the Cyber Crime Tribunal of Dhaka gave the order as Elan could not be produced before the court because of the opposition’s blockade programme. The tribunal also ordered the authorities concerned to release the items seized from the Odhikar office. Defence pleader Md Asaduzzaman filed a petition in this regard.

Adilur, who is now on bail from the High Court since October 11, was present at the court. Elan also secured bail last week, but is yet to be released from jail.

On September 11, the tribunal took into cognisance the charges of publishing “fake, distorted and defamatory” information against Adilur and Elan under the ICT Act.

The DB on September 4 submitted the charges after investigation for distorting facts about the eviction drive against Hefazat-e-Islam at Shapla Chattar on May 5.
