Activists of Jamaat-Shibir have allegedly cut the tendons of an employee of the Rajshahi University on Wednesday night.
Campus sources said injured Selim Reja Khan Selu had been admitted to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, reports BSS.
Abdul Majid, officer-in-charge of Matihar police station, said tendons of his left hand and two fingers of the right had been chopped off and he also sustained head injuries.
He said a group of men attacked Selim nearby his home at the city’s Binodpur area around 11pm.
Kamruzzaman Chanchal of RU Employees’ Association said:”Selim used to be involved with Chhatra League. The attack was the handiwork of Shibir.”
He said the men encircled Selim and attacked him with sharp weapons before leaving him in a pool of blood.
OC Majid said family members have blamed the local Jamaat-Shibir activists for the attack.
Meanwhile, Ziauddin Bablu, Publicity Secretary of Islami Chhatra Shibir’s RU unit, denied the charge and told local journalists that the attack might be an outcome of a local dispute.
