Filariasis elimination programme at Rangpur jail

The authorities of Rangpur City Corporation with the assistances of the Directorate of Health yesterday launched the National Filariasis Elimination Programme at Rangpur Central Jail.

The programme was launched through administering Diethylcarbamazine Citrate 120 milligram tablets to several inmates as a part of the ongoing 10-day mass tablet administering campaign begun on November 21.

With Senior Jail Super of RCJ Mizanur Rahman in the chair, Civil Surgeon of Rangpur Dr Reajul Islam formally launched the programme at a function, reports BSS.

Assistant Surgeon of the jail Dr Afzal Hossain Talukder, RCC Councilor Akram Hossain and Health Inspector of RCC Abdul Kaiyum were present as special guests.

The health officials discussed the reasons behind spreading of the curable disease and briefed effectiveness of the long-term Multi-Drug Therapy treatment method.

They said the common people could get rid of filariasis disease and lead normal life through eliminating mosquito reproduction by adopting preventive measures for improving the hygienic condition in surrounding environment.

Under the programme, 716,900 people in RCC area will be given the tablets till tomorrow with one tablet for each of the 2-8 years age group children and two tablets for each 8-12 years age group children and three tablets to each above 12 years age group.

The health workers and volunteers of RCC have been visiting door to door daily with the tablets from 9am to 5pm.
