Meanwhile, a senior lawyer was hacked to death at his home village in the Banshkhali upazila of Chittagong late Wednesday. Md Shah Alam,
50, son of late Saber Ali, was a legal practitioner at the Chittagong Judges’ Court.
No one was arrested in connection with the murder yet but police suspect it could be related to discords over proprietorship of a piece of land.
Confirming the incident, Kamrul Islam, officer in charge of Banshkhali police station, said unidentified miscreants armed with sharp weapons swooped on Shah Alam around 11:30pm, near his home in the Ilsha village, leaving him dead on the spot.
“Our primary investigation suggests that disputes over land could be behind the murder,” he said, noting that Alam had been involved with the politics of Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
The body was sent to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
