A Tk1bn defamation suit was filed against daily Inquilab editor and three others with a Chandpur court on Sunday for allegedly misrepresenting former Foreign Minister Dipu Moni.
The court took charge into cognisance against daily Inquilab editor and Publisher AMM Bahauddin, News Editor Ahmed Ashiq, Reporter Rabiul Rabi and the daily's Chandpur Correspondent BM Hannan.
Former Foreign Minister Dipu Moni's Chandpur Correspondent Saifuddin Ahmed Babu filed the case with Chandpur Senior Judicial Magistrate Tuesday afternoon.
The case statement said a confusing and baseless news was published in the daily Inquilab regarding Dipu Moni, her elder brother JR Wadud Tipu and other Awami League leaders on November 25.
Prosecution lawyer Jashim Uddin Patwari said the bench of Justice Ashim Kumar Dey took the charge into cognisanse and asked the accused to appear before court on January 15.
