Three more drivers were burnt in different areas of the city as pickets set their vehicles on fire on Tuesday, the first day of the 48-hour blocked.
Our Correspondent reports: A driver was burned when pickets set his CNG-driven auto-rickshaw on fire in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Witnesses said Safed Ali, 32, was burned when pickets set his vehicle on fire in Hatirpool area around 1:15am. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
On the other hand, Md Mojammel Haque, 20, a Leguna driver, received burns as pickets set his vehicle on fire in city's South Banashree area around 7pm.
He was admitted at Dhaka Medical College Hospital with 40% burn injuries, said Partha Shankar Paul, residential surgeon, DMCH burn unit. Another CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver named Nizam Uddin, 36, admitted at DMCH burn unit with 15% burn injuries, Partha added.
Witnesses said a group of blocked-supporters torched his vehicle in city's Maghbazar area around 7:30pm, leaving him injured.
Besides, crude bombs were set off in several areas and a police vehicle was set on fire within the city. A train was also vandalised.
At least nine were detained from the city's Aminbazar, Savar police Officer-in-Charge Mostafa Kamal said. “Additional police have been deployed in the area.”
Shibir supporters set fire to the motorbike of Inspector Kaykobad in Azampur railway crossing around 10:45am.
The inspector said he was trying to break a gathering of Shibir supporters on the railway tracks. One Mohammad Mithu, 35, was held from the scene.
Two carriages of a commuter train was vandalised in Azampur rail crossing area around noon, the inspector said.
Witnesses said Shibir supporters hurled crude bombs at Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) troopers in Jatrabari around 8am.
At least 14 crude bombs were set off and three vehicles vandalised in the capital’s Dholaikhal Balurmath and Shutrapur Patla Khan Lane on Tuesday afternoon.
Our Correspondent reports that Chhatra Dal members hurled four crude bombs and vandalised three vehicles in Dholaikhal Balurmath around 1:05pm.
Islami Chhatra Shibir members set off 10 crude bombs at Shutrapur Patla Khan Lane at around 12:30pm.
Meanwhile, our Dhaka University correspondent reported that two crude bombs were set off in the area sometime around 1:30pm.
Sources said, out of the 10 crude bombs, two were hurled at the Muslim School in the area but no one was injured in the incident.
Shutrapur police station Officer-in-charge Rafiqul Islam confirmed the incident.
