A sub-inspector of the capital’s Shahbagh police station was suspended on Saturday after a DMCH doctor, detained on charges of irregularities in duty, fled police custody.
“Sub-inspector Jahangir Hossain was suspended as the arrested doctor fled police custody because of his negligence in duty. He was the on-duty officer in the police station”, said Sheikh Maruf Hasan, deputy commissioner of the Ramna Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
He also said a committee had been formed to find out whether any other policeman were responsible for the fleeing. “The two-member committee, led by Additional DC Anwar Hossain, has been asked to finish enquiry within seven days.”
According to sources at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, authorities on Friday afternoon handed over Jahangir Alam, suspended earlier, to Shahbagh police after he was caught allegedly supplying fabricated and false medical certificates from the library of the Neurosurgery Department.
But the detained doctor fled the police station on Friday evening.
