A police constable was injured during a procession brought out by Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir members in the capital’s Progoti Shoroni area in Baddaon on Saturday morning
The injured man was identified as Constbale Abdul Ali, a police pickup van driver.
Sources said Jamaat and Shibir members made the procession and vandalised five to six private cars around 9am.
Abdul Ali was injured when Jamaat and Shibir members they threw bricks and bats at the police vehicles as they rushed to the scene to disperse the crowd.
Police officials fired blank shots and tear shells to bring the situation under control.
Confirming the incident, Officer-in-charge of Badda police station, Iqbal Hossain said: “Additional police have been deployed to the area to avoid further incidents.”
